Leeds Digital Festival
I’m excited to announce the launch of Leeds Digital Festival which will run from April 25th to 29th 2016 and coincides with the award winning Live at Leeds music festival.
I’m involved from both a personal and professional level and it’s great to be part of something which will underline Leeds status as one of the country’s most switched-on cities by hosting a celebration of its thriving digital community.
Simon Brereton, Acting Head of Economic Policy and Sector Development at Leeds City Council, said: “Leeds has one of the most dynamic digital communities in Europe, with more than 3,500 digital businesses. We are a hugely ambitious, creative city and I’m pleased that we’ve harnessed a spirit of collaboration in the digital community to create the new Leeds Digital Festival, our very own north by north east!”.
By combining digital themes with Live at Leeds, we hope to bring an even larger audience into Leeds and will crossover from business to culture to music, as seen in more established festivals around the world, the most successful example of which is SXSW in Austin, Texas. We are aiming to organise large-scale shows during the week featuring keynote speakers from the digital and business sectors.
There are also expected to be a range of smaller ‘fringe’ events run by festival supporters and carrying themes such as start-ups, culture, art and music.
Stuart Clarke, director of Media Yorkshire, the trade association for digital, creative and marketing agencies, said:

Confirmation of plans for the Leeds Digital Festival comes at the end of a busy year for the web-based business scene in Leeds as Google chose Leeds Dock as the temporary home of its Digital Garage, a multi-million pound scheme designed to help firms improve their net skills.
Leeds Dock’s owners have also said they want to establish part of the site as a super-flexible hub for creative, media and technology firms.
