Jeremy Oliver
Jeremy trained with the firm as a general practitioner and has some 10 years experience working with clients in a variety of business sectors.

In recent years Jeremy has become closely involved in providing specialist corporate and business advice to numerous house builders, property developers and construction companies as well as individual property investors.

His particular areas of expertise include:

  • Looking at the accounting requirements of transactions, assisting with corporate finance and fund raising
  • Acquisition finance and transaction support services
  • Business advisory and taxation issues in relation to the capital gains tax and inheritance tax planning
  • Assisting with financial appraisals of property developments and cashflow and working capital projections

Jeremy also works closely with London York, our associate firm of Independent Financial advisors, particularly in connection with all issues relating to the use of pension funds as a vehicle for property investment.

Nick Skull
Nick qualified with Ernst and Young, he has 17 years experience in providing tax services to owner-managers and their companies, and to private clients.

Recent projects include:

  • Designing a method to allow tax-efficient profit extraction from companies, and getting the strategy approved by Tax Counsel
  • Sheltering substantially all the future gains on land and property from tax
  • Implementing innovative structures for partnerships to allow significant tax savings without incorporating
  • Realising greatly enhanced value on acquisition of a business property in a pension fund
  • Setting up an exempt unit trust to allow personal pension schemes to hold an interest in residential property

Nick specialises in tax advisory projects, where he uses a consultative approach to helping clients define their personal and corporate tax strategies, and then puts the steps in place to help them achieve these goals.  He has a particular understanding of the property investment and development sectors.

Duncan Meredith
Duncan is a corporate tax specialist who has had many years' experience in this sector through his time spent with national firms including Arthur Andersen. Duncan has advised in many property investment and development situations. His expertise includes:

  • Joint ventures and unincorporated property ownership vehicles, including their structure and finance and related tax issues
  • Review of existing properties and acquisitions, optimising claims to capital allowances and industrial buildings allowances
  • The taxation of leases, including dilapidations and variations
  • The investment/trading status of property transactions, including anti-avoidance legislation and the tax consequences of a change of status
  • The taxation of income and capital receipts and expenses
  • Acquisitions and sales of property portfolios and companies
  • The review of stamp duty in property transactions. Stamp duty is now becoming a significant tax, and careful planning is required to minimise where possible

Duncan has a wealth of experience advising on general tax issues relating to individuals, companies and groups, planning ahead to adopt share/asset structures which suit the tax profile of clients, particularly joint venture arrangements, and taking into account capital gains and other taxes.
