Garbutt & Elliott is registered with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). This reflects our commitment to working with Inward Investors from the United States and authorises the firm to take audit engagements for substantial subsidiaries of US public companies.
With the additional requirements of the US Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002, under section 404 (SOX404), management must report and make an assessment on the effectiveness of their internal controls over financial reporting. Auditors of companies caught within the Act must report on management's assessment, which we are permitted to do through our PCAOB registration.
Compliance with SOX404 is onerous and requires detailed documentation of financial reporting systems and controls, and subsequent testing and monitoring with follow up remediation where necessary. This is a time consuming process so many companies look externally for assistance, however it cannot be provided by a company's auditors. We are able to assist in this area, acting as advisors rather than as auditors.
