Jane Roffey, VAT Consultant

"Are you prepared for online filing? If not, we can help!"

For accounting periods commencing on or after 1 April 2010 you must file all VAT returns online and pay any VAT declared electronically. This means:

  • You will not receive any paper returns for completion for any period starting on or after 1 April 2010.
  • If you already file VAT returns online, then you must continue to do so and pay VAT electronically from now on.
  • You may be liable to a penalty if you fail to file your return online or meet the deadlines for filing and payment.
  • You will need to set up a VAT online account and enrol for VAT services in order to file online.

This applies to all businesses that have an annual turnover of £100,000 or more, excluding VAT, and to all businesses that register for VAT on or after 1st April 2010.

It is likely that the system will be extended in due course to cover all VAT registered businesses and therefore it is vital that you are aware of how these changes will affect you and your business.

At Garbutt & Elliott we have considerable experience in advising on all areas of VAT compliance and planning.
