David Wins Lifetime Achievement Award
No-one was more surprised than our Managing Director, David Dickson on receiving the prestigious York Press Lifetime Achievement Award at their Business Awards Ceremony on Thursday 16 November 2006. On receiving the award David commented, “I am surprised and deeply honoured”. The award, sponsored this year by CPP, is presented to someone who has made a significant contribution to the growth and continued success of the region’s business community. Master of Ceremonies on the evening, Colin Hazelden, described David’s numerous commitments, past and present, to the local business community, including: non-executive director of Business Link; chairman of York Business Development Ltd; non-executive director of york-england.com; member of the strategic board of Science City York; director of Moores Rowland International; main board director of MRI (UK); director of Medipex Ltd; director of Customer First UK Ltd; vice-chairman and head of finance at the Theatre Royal, York; chairman of the audit committee of the University of York; member of the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York and a governor of St Peter's School. David joins an impressive roll of past winners including Sir Donald Barron, former Chairman of Rowntree Mackintosh, Pro-Chancellor of The University of York and Chairman for 15 years of the Joseph Rowntree foundation Trustees; Professor Tony Robards, Chair of Innovation at the University of York and Ian Johnston, former Managing Director and later Chairman of Terrys of York when the firm was at its height in the sixties & seventies. David comments, “Awards to individuals of this type are only possible when the person in question has the support and backing of many, and in my case the support given to me by everyone at G&E has allowed me to go out and help drive forward the business community in our region.” |
