Firm's Award for Taking the Family into Account

Three senior directors of leading Yorkshire accountants Garbutt & Elliott, who sponsored the Press Family Business of the Year Award, have successfully completed a two-year post-graduate course in Family Business.

Family business specialists Craig Manson and Jeremy Oliver, Directors, and Russell Turner, Managing Director, were among only nine out of the 20-strong University of Gloucestershire course who passed the exam, the first of its kind in the country.

The content of the course covered the dynamics of families, dealing with the complex relationships that exist within families in a family business context and providing a governance framework to protect the family business.

Mr Manson said: "Succession issues are often covered at a technical, functional level, but the course went much further to provide an insight to the emotional aspects of changes within the family business of both management and ownership.
