Quality Practice Management
Lexcel is the Law Society’s practice management quality mark. It is granted to law firms that can demonstrate that the Lexcel Practice Management Standards are being met.
Having better control over your business can result in it becoming more profitable through improved business performance and having Lexcel can result in lower Professional Indemnity Insurance premiums.
We can help you to design and implement the policies, processes and procedures which will assist in preparing for the Lexcel assessment.
Why Implement Lexcel?
Having Lexcel and its associated procedures will:
- Improve efficiency, profitability and liquidity.
- Minimise mistakes
- Improve internal communications
- Potentially reduce PII premiums through risk management.
- Allow for differentiation from competitors and therefore aid marketing.
- Set standards across all departments and offices.
- Improve motivation and recruitment of staff.
- Increase client retention rates via improved customer service.
- Improve success rates in tenders.
It is anticipated that the Solicitors’ Practice Rules will shortly be amended to require all firms to prove that they are managing themselves correctly. The easiest way to prove this internally and externally is by having the Lexcel quality mark.
Our Specialists
We have in-house Lexcel Consultants who can advise your practice. We also work alongside an Independent Lexcel Consultant who is also an accredited and experienced Lexcel Assessor who with our Legal Plus team can help prepare and guide your practice towards obtaining Lexcel accreditation.
Our Service
As Law Society authorised Lexcel consultants, we are in a position to:
- Discuss the advantages of Lexcel and determine whether it is appropriate for your firm.
- Explain what is required to obtain the Lexcel accreditation.
- Review your current systems to advise what changes are required to become Lexcel compliant.
- Check that any necessary improvements have been implemented before the formal assessment takes place. The short timescales permitted to correct non-
compliances are strictly enforced by assessors.
- Reduce the time and cost of the accreditation process by helping you to have everything ready for the assessors.
Lexcel has many similarities with other national standards and frameworks such as SQM, Investors in People, EFQM and ISO 9000, meaning firms that already have these standards and frameworks or wish to work towards them will find it easier to implement Lexcel. Flexibility does exist for assessment and review against other standards at the same time as Lexcel and we can advise on the options and potential cost benefits available to you
However, since Lexcel is the only quality mark that is written specific to the legal profession it reflects the needs and challenges law firms face today and in the future.
