The Yorkshire Marathon 2016

This year we had 3 “athletes” entered in The Yorkshire Marathon – they joined over 9,000 runners taking part in the marathon, corporate relay & Yorkshire 10 mile events on a warm autumn day in York, on Sunday 9th.

Here’s how they got on:

Steven Walker – I was running for St Leonards Hospice and at the moment have raised £320 but there are a few people still to sponsor me so I expect that to be higher in the next couple of days.

Due to a severe lack of training it was really hard but the crowds and support created an amazing lift that kept me going and spurred me on to go faster. I eventually finished in 5.24.04 which I was very happy with due to my poor training and the fact that I am not a long distance runner by any stretch of the imagination. I am now in pain but it is an experience I will never forget!

Kevin Hilton – I had a much better run than last year & was pleased to break the sub 4 hour time with a PB run of 3.49.47 – conditions were good. Not too warm & the odd rain shower which really helped keep us all cool. This year I managed to avoid the dreaded “cramps” by drinking a large bottle of salt water at mile 18 – that & plenty of Vaseline helped get me over the finishing line.

I was running on behalf of the Parkinson’s UK charity

Nigel Shaw – Enjoyed the run but to be honest wanted to run abit quicker than finish time of 3.38.59 – still had some “petrol in the tank” at finish which, as my wife remarked, “makes a nice change to see you finish in a decent state” !! Must try harder next time.

Crowds were amazing especially at Stamford Bridge – great atmosphere but the finish on a hill is just cruel!
