Square Chapel Trust Appoints Garbutt + Elliott Ahead of Expansion

I’m very pleased to announce that Halifax performing arts charity Square Chapel Trust has appointed Garbutt + Elliott as it prepares to reopen its newly expanded facility in 2017.

As part of the appointment, we will prepare and audit the charity’s accounts in order for it to produce its annual report. I will manage the service with partner Alan Sidebottom signing off the audit.

The appointment comes at a significant time for Square Chapel Trust, as it prepares to reopen following the significant expansion of the organisation’s Halifax premises. The Trust’s Centre for the Arts is set to double in size and will have two entrances, one set within the famous Piece Hall in Halifax, increasing the centre’s visibility and allowing the charity to offer an expanded programme of film, theatre, comedy and more.

Commenting on the appointment, Square Chapel Trust finance director Mike Chapman said: “For us, after many years with the same auditors, 2015 was the perfect year to seek out a new company and we were delighted to receive Garbutt + Elliot’s bid. We had previously had dealings with the firm in the area of VAT so we were confident that we would receive the same high-quality support and expertise.

“As we approach the conclusion of our first audit with Garbutt + Elliott and the issuing of our March 2016 statutory accounts, I feel that both parties are pleased that we are working together. Square Chapel’s future business model is unrecognisable from anything that has gone before and moving forward with Garbutt + Elliott gives us the reassurance that we will have the very best level of support available to us.”

Our charities and not-for-profit team provides high quality professional advice and support for over 100 clients including Yorkshire Agricultural Society, Saint Michael’s Hospice and Yorkshire Cancer Trust. The specialist team offers a broad range of services for its not-for-profit clients including advice and support for VAT, gift aid, risk reviews, grant audits and business plans.

My comments: “Square Chapel is about to embark on a very bright new chapter so we are happy to be in place to support the charity through this very exciting time. Not only does Garbutt + Elliott have a great deal of experience in providing accountancy advice and support to charities, our broad range of services gives Square Chapel Trust access to experts who can advise on everything from payroll services to VAT.”
