Graham Returns to Garbutt & Elliott After 14 Years

We have welcomed back Graham Garbett to Garbutt & Elliott after 14 years.

Graham first joined G&E as a trainee accountant in 1989, leaving after qualification in 1993 to work in the public sector.  A qualified Chartered Accountant with 18 years of experience, Graham has been working in general practice in Yorkshire and the North East of England gaining extensive experience of working with a wide range of businesses, including manufacturing, leisure, retail, service industry, charities, the legal profession and financial services.

Graham has joined our Business Advisory Department in York to provide accounting services and technical advice to new and existing clients.

He said: “Garbutt & Elliott has an excellent reputation for supporting owner-managed businesses and large organisations and has strong ‘in-house’ teams of specialists to provide appropriate services. I am very pleased to have joined a firm that is clearly focussed on providing help and advice to businesses to enable them to develop and improve.

New Audit Team Appointment

Jon Wilson has been appointed as a client relationship manager, based in our Leeds office.

Jon joins from PKF in Leeds after spending a year there as a senior manager in the audit and assurance department. Before that he worked in industry for a number of years as head of finance with LINK Interchange Network Limited.

He commented: “I am delighted to be joining Garbutt & Elliott. My current role is to help to ensure that all clients are serviced in an efficient manner, overseeing the day- to-day running of the assurance and advisory department and hopefully to assist in winning new clients and building up the Leeds office client base”.

Nick Joins The Tax Team

Nick Scull joins Garbutt & Elliott as Head of Tax, responsible for the development of the tax department within the firm.  He has previously spent seven years at a top 30 firm of accountants, where he was responsible for building up the tax advisory team and helping to formulate the firm’s tax strategy.

David Dickson, managing director of Garbutt & Elliott said: “This is a very significant appointment for us. Nick is highly experienced and will further strengthen our tax team, which is already one of the most respected in the region.”

Corporate Finance Team New Appointment

Tariq Javaid. has been appointed to our  Corporate Finance team as Corporate Finance Manager.

Tariq joins Garbutt & Elliott from regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, where he was responsible for Selective Finance for Investment and the South Yorkshire Inward Investment Programme.

He brings a wealth of experience in due diligence and structuring finance, working across a number of sectors including advanced engineering materials, food and drink, creative industries, bioscience, healthcare technologies and the environment.

Tariq has also worked for Depuy, a leading international orthopaedic company and Weir Valves, part of the Weir Group, in various commercial and financial positions.

Richard Feltham, Head of Corporate Finance at Garbutt and Elliott, commented: “Tariq has joined us as Corporate Finance Manager in our growing Corporate Finance Department and he will be working on transaction services, management buy-outs and buy-ins, mergers and acquisitions, disposals and fund-raising. His previous owner-managed business experience will prove invaluable to us.”
